Answer your Google reviews faster with AI, without sounding like a robot
Replying to reviews shows customers you're listening, but finding the words takes time. Gemini can now read your Google Business Profile reviews and draft replies for you to edit. Here's how to use it, and when to write the reply yourself.

Skip this
- Skip paid 'AI review response' services until you've tried the free route. Gemini plus a copy-and-paste prompt covers most small businesses.
- Skip anything that posts replies automatically. Every reply is public, and the customer gets notified, so a human should read it first.
- Skip AI for angry or sensitive reviews (refunds, injuries, staff complaints). Write those yourself, or take the conversation offline.
Why it’s worth 10 minutes
People read your reviews before they call you, and they read your replies too. A short, specific “thank you” or a calm answer to a complaint tells a stranger you’re a real business that cares. The hard part is sitting down and finding the words, review after review.
Google now lets you connect your Business Profile to its Gemini assistant. Once it’s connected, Gemini can pull up your reviews, sum up what customers keep saying, and draft replies for you to edit. It’s free to use, and the reply still goes out under your business name, not yours personally.
Set it up (about 10 minutes)
- Make sure your business is verified on Google. You can’t reply to reviews until it is.
- On a computer, go to gemini.google.com and sign in with the personal Google account that manages your Business Profile.
- Type: “@Google Business Profile show my latest reviews.” If it isn’t connected yet, Gemini will offer to connect it. Follow the on-screen steps.
- Ask for a draft with clear limits, for example: “Draft a two-sentence reply to the newest 5-star review. Mention the service they named. Warm, professional, no offers, don’t add facts that aren’t in the review.”
- Read the draft, fix anything that isn’t true, and post it.
If the connection isn’t available to you, the free fallback works for everyone: open your Business Profile, choose Read reviews, click Reply, and paste a draft you got from any AI chat using the same prompt.
The free option
Everything here is free: Business Profile, the Gemini free plan, and manual replies. A paid Google AI plan only gives you more Gemini usage.
What it’s great at
- Getting past the blank page on the 20th “Great service, thanks!” review.
- Spotting themes (“several people mention parking”) so you can fix the real problem.
- Keeping your tone consistent when more than one person answers reviews.
Good to know
- Google recommends replies that are helpful, polite and short, and not promotional. Don’t send the same thank-you to everyone.
- The customer is notified when you reply, and they can still change their review afterward.
Privacy, in plain English
- Connecting Business Profile to Gemini requires the Gemini 'Keep Activity' setting to be on (per Google), which means your Gemini chats are saved to your Google account.
- Never put a customer's private details (order numbers, phone, health or payment info) in a public reply, even if the AI suggests it.
- If you paste reviews into ChatGPT or another tool instead, you're sharing customer text with that company. Reviews are public already, but keep your own notes about the customer out of the prompt.
What can break
- The Gemini connection only works if you manage exactly one verified Business Profile, use a personal (not work or school) Google account, and are 18+ (per Google). Multi-location owners can't use it yet.
- Google says the feature is rolling out gradually, and a third-party report says it isn't available in the UK or EEA. You may not see it yet.
- Google checks replies before posting them; most go up within about 10 minutes, but some take up to 30 days.
- AI drafts can invent details (a staff name, a discount, a promise). Read every sentence against the actual review.
Next step
Pair it with a review-request link or QR code from Business Profile at the counter or on receipts, so more happy customers leave reviews for you to answer.
